A U.S. consortium has agreed to invest up to $3 billion into the PGA Tour, the professional golf organization announced on Wednesday. Under the terms of the deal, the investor, Strategic Sports Group, will become a minority owner in PGA Tour enterprises, the for-profit entity of the PGA Tour. The Orioles have been mediocre — or straight-up awful — throughout most of Angelos’ ownership. The new owner, Rubenstein, is a Baltimore native and co-founder of The Carlyle Group, a Washington, DC-based private equity giant. If the sale is approved, Rubenstein will become the controlling partner in the ownership group, the key decision-maker. After the 94-year-old Angelos dies, the Rubenstein group will own all 100% of the club. The Orioles’ $1.7 billion valuation is nearly triple what the team was worth in 2014, according to Forbes.

The Red Sox said Williams died Friday at AdventHealth North Pinellas Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Florida, after a brief illness. Williams was voted AL Manager of the Year after leading the Red Sox to their second straight playoff appearance. Williams signed with Boston, played at Class A Iowa and was selected by St. Louis in the 1965 Rule 5 draft. Williams played in 14 major league games, going 3 for 13 (.231) with one RBI. Bobby Cox took over as the Blue Jays' manager in 1982 and when Cox left in 1986 to become Atlanta's general manager, Williams replaced him in Toronto's dugout.
